What are Structural and Licensed Entities?

The entities model has been introduced to simplify the way TRACC subscriptions are accessed across organizational areas and to provide the basis for more meaningful reports in future. If an area is marked as an entity, TRACC subscriptions enabled for that area will be accessible, and can be implemented using the Assessor and Planner functions in the TRACC Platform.

 

Structural Entities

Structural Entities (SE) are usually areas at a higher level of the area tree. These areas will have access to TRACCs, but any child areas below the SE level will not necessarily inherit that access. These could be areas such as regions and business units that implement TRACCs like Value Chain Alignment, Human Capital and Leading and Managing Change.

For example, the 'North America' region (in the screenshot below) or a particular product business unit.

 

Licensed Entities

Licensed Entities (LE) are areas such as sites where TRACCs are implemented across the LE structure. In these areas, you can create assessments and plans for the TRACCs that have been subscribed at all levels within the LE. 

For example, the 'Detroit Factory' area and all its lines (in the screenshot below), or a Supply Planning function and all its departments.

 

Enabling Structural and Licensed Entities

  • Areas are enabled as SEs or LEs in the TRACC Client Admin Console (CLAC)
  • Entity status is set by CLAC Admins and Area Managers
  • Each organization has a quota of LEs that can be set up based on the client license agreement
  • Once the area's entity status has been set, the color of the house icon for an area will indicate whether it is:
    1. a Structural Entity (green house icon)
    2. an unlicensed or undesignated area (red house)
    3. a Licensed Entity (dark blue house) 
    4. an area that belongs to an LE (light blue house)

Note:

  • Unlicensed areas cannot implement TRACC (no assessments or plans, and no access to TRACC content)
  • It is not possible to have a SE 'inside' an LE
  • Derived assessments can be created in any area, regardless of the area’s entity status

 

Inheritance of TRACC access

Access to TRACCs is inherited down from an LE to all its child areas. An SE’s access to TRACCs only applies to that particular area and has no effect on the areas below it in the area tree.
