The below article outlines how the maturity scores in the TRACC Explorer Maturity tab are calculated, and highlights key factors that need to be considered.
Key considerations
- A parent area's maturity score is an aggregate of its child areas.
- The child areas will use the latest assessment scores for that practice.
- All maturity score calculations only take normal and baseline assessments into account. Other assessment types are excluded from this calculation.
- The data from the Platform to the Explorer may take some time to sync across. If this is not updated immediately, please allow a few hours (4+) for it to sync.
There might be a mismatch in maturity scores in the Explorer vs the Platform because:
- The Explorer takes all data (including old data) into account, whereas the Platform (and Reporting Module) shows the latest data, which is seen as more realistic or accurate.
- If an area has child areas, the system will aggregate the maturity scores of the child areas and calculate an average (based on weighting rules) and make this the maturity score for that TRACC, in the parent area.
How the score is calculated
Note: We will use to the Detroit Factory area, and it's four child areas, as an example to explain how the maturity score is calculated.
Detroit Factory has an aggregate maturity score of 1.57 for Set-up Time Reduction (STR) in the Explorer.
Notice that there are more scores and areas underneath it, which indicates that its child areas have an STR assessment in place.
For areas that do not have child areas implementing the same practice, their maturity score will appear individually as indicated below.
This calculation comes from aggregating the latest normal or baseline assessment scores from the Platform, using its child areas that have a STR assessment in place.
DET Preparation – 1.81
DET Packaging – 1.06
The system aggregated the maturity of DET Packaging's child areas (DET Pack Line 1 and 2), as they also have STR assessments in place; and it will use that aggregation, opposed to the score of a normal or baseline assessment for this area.
Below are the actual area (DET Packaging) scores that are not used:
The area maturity score (for DET Packing) that was used in this instance comes from DET Pack Line 1, as DET Pack Line 2 has no STR assessment yet:
DET Warehouse – 2.4
DET Distribution – 1.0
Therefore, the sum of all four areas is 1.81 + 1.06 + 2.4 + 1.0 = 6.27
So the aggregate score is 6.27 ÷ 4 (for the four areas) = 1.57 (as noted at the beginning of this example)
The rest of the data in the Explorer is merely a drill down of the maturity and the areas involved.
- If you drill down to a more granular level, it will indicate the progression of the maturity scores for the relevant areas, for that practice.
2. If you explore a particular area, it will allow you to view:
- The latest assessment that was considered in this calculation, for the selected area. This will include the assessment details such as the assessment owner, assessment type, when it was last updated, etc.
- If you continue to drill down, it will list the stages and themes linked to that assessment.
- At this point you can drill even further down to view the assessment criteria linked to a specific stage and theme. This view will indicate which criteria have been answered, those that have not been answered, and those answered no.
