How do I link KPIs to an area?
Whenever you add a KPI definition, it is defined in a specific organisational area. By default, the KPI is then added to the KPI list for that area and its child areas. However, you can also link the KPI to any other areas in your organisation.
Consider the following examples:
- A KPI that is defined in the ‘BevCom (Pty) Ltd’ area is automatically visible in all areas of the organisation.
- A KPI that is defined in the ‘Coffee Factory’ area is visible in that area, as well as in the ‘Chicory Extraction’, ‘Spray Towers’, ‘New Blending Area’ and ‘Packaging’ areas, but not in any other areas of the organisation.
- A KPI that is defined in the ‘Spray Towers’ area is only visible in that area.
You can override the default inheritance of KPIs in the following ways:
- You can link a KPI to an area to which it is not linked by default. For example, if a KPI has been defined in the ‘Coffee Factory’ area, it is not automatically linked to the ‘Snack Factory’ area, but it can be linked to it manually.
- You can unlink a KPI from an area to which it is linked by default. For example, if a KPI has been defined in the ‘Coffee Factory’ area, it will be visible by default in the ‘Spray Towers’ area, but it can be unlinked from there manually.
Note: If you have manually linked a KPI to an area or unlinked a KPI from it, the KPI is automatically linked or unlinked for all its child areas as well.
KPI definitions can easily be linked and unlinked as required. If you choose to unlink a KPI from an organisational area, the KPI definition itself is not deleted and neither are any values entered for the KPI in that area. If the KPI definition is once again linked to the area, the values become visible again.
To link KPIs to an area:
Step 1
Click the Performance tab.
Step 2
In the Area Tree pane, select the area in which you would like to change KPI definition links.
The KPI List pane for the selected area displays all KPI definitions currently linked to that area.
Step 3
Right-click anywhere in the KPI List pane and select Link KPIs to this area.
Step 4
The KPI Picker window opens, listing all the KPIs defined within the entire organisation. The area in which each KPI is defined is indicated in the Area Defined column.
In the case of KPIs that have been defined in an area other than the root area, the path to the relevant area is also displayed in the Area Path column.
Step 5
To link an individual KPI to the area, select the checkbox to the right of the KPI. To select all the KPIs in all of the categories, click the Select All button at the bottom right of the KPI Picker dialog box.
Click the Continue button to save the KPIs you have linked to the area. If you do not wish to save your changes, click the Cancel button.
Step 6
The new KPI is now displayed in the KPI List pane for the area.
